Notre Dame of Maryland University seeks to appoint a Dean for the School of Arts, Sciences and Business (SASB) effective July 1, 2019. The particular mission of the School of Arts, Sciences and Business is to support studies and experiential learning that engages students in the intellectual traditions of the liberal arts. Students are expected to acquire the knowledge and skills appropriate to their disciplines of study and to develop the skills of a liberally educated person.

The Dean manages undergraduate and graduate programs across 15 academic areas and reports directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. As chief administrator, the Dean has the following core responsibilities:

  • strategic planning and budgeting for the School
  • faculty hiring and professional development; supervision of department chairs and program directors
  • initiatives for enrollment growth
  • oversight of student recruitment and retention
  • new program and curriculum design, including academic majors and general education components
  • oversight of processes of assessment of program effectiveness and student learning outcomes
  • oversight of specialty area accreditations and grant development

Reporting to the Dean are:

  • department chairs and program directors
  • the SASB enrollment manager
  • SASB professional academic advisors
  • Associate Dean, who oversees School operations and directs the first-year seminar

Because of the strong roots of the SASB in the liberal arts and the University's Women's College, the following offices also report to the Dean:

  • academic success and enrichment
  • the undergraduate Honors Program

Requirements:

The qualified candidate will have an earned doctorate in a liberal arts and sciences discipline represented within the NDMU School of Arts, Sciences and Business. Candidates should have a strong record of full-time teaching and scholarly accomplishments, along with evidence of administrative experience and leadership of strategic initiatives. Tenured full professor rank preferred.
