Eligible candidates for this position must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance. The duties and responsibilities of this position require that the incumbent have access to documents and/or material containing Secret Restricted Data which are related to sensitive issues.
This position has been designated as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) in accordance with applicable orders and procedures, and the incumbent of this position will be subject to random drug tests for illegal drugs.
This position requires incumbent to complete and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE Form 450, in accordance with the Ethics in Government Act of 1978, as amended.
The selectee must test negative prior to being appointed to this position and will be subject to random testing thereafter. Failure to pass or refusal to take subsequent tests could result in non-selection or disciplinary action, up to and including removal from the Federal service.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Applicants for engineering and architecture must demonstrate the following:
GS-9: Education - 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree. (See education requirement) Experience - One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-7) in federal service.
GS-11: Experience - 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph. d. degree or Ph. d. or equivalent doctoral degree. (see education requirement) OR Experience - One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-9) in federal service.
Degree: professional engineering. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: OPM GEN Eng Series.
Education must be obtained from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Foreign education must be reviewed by an organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
