The (Senior) Analyst, Impact Data Insights will work closely with the Impact Measurement, Evaluation and Strategy function to collect/build/manage data sets and run analyses. The unifying objective of these analyses is to define and measure the public health impact of USP’s standards and activities. This individual will work closely with the Data Strategy and Analytics team and other internal USP teams.

The (Senior) Analyst, Impact Data Insights will be responsible for running analyses to measure and evaluate the impact of USP’s standards on public health in the US and globally that will be inputs in how USP communicates its impact on public health and also how USP optimizes internal decisions to optimize its public health impact. The person in this role will develop a comprehensive understanding of internal USP data sets/processes and merge them with external data sets from regulatory agencies, research organizations and third party data vendors in order to execute these analyses. This person will also create data sets and visualizations to communicate these insights to internal and external audiences. This is a non-supervisory position in the Strategy and Business Development Division. This role is a great opportunity for anyone who enjoys structured problem solving and testing hypotheses by diving into new data sets.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Develop data assets and analyses that assess and test USP impact in the US and globally
  • Identify and cultivate sources of information on pharmaceutical manufacturing quality, access to quality drugs and pharmaceutical regulatory activities to understand trends and implications for USP
  • Update previous analyses and reports with new internal and external data sets
  • Search for new data sets and quickly test whether data assets can be merged or mapped to existing analyses and/or internal data sets
  • Data collection including internal and public data as well as market landscape and paid data services
  • Compile data and generate reports in MS Excel or other formats
  • Provide thought partnership to colleagues in Strategy and Business Development, Science and Global External Affairs what Public Health benefits can be attributed to USP standards and activities (Sr. Analyst level)
  • Conceptualize, and then independently execute analyses (Sr. Analyst level)
  • Present findings, as appropriate, to internal and external stakeholders, e.g. USP leadership, Scientific Liaisons, Expert Volunteers etc. (Sr. Analyst level)
  • Other duties as assigned


Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Economics or other relevant degree required
  • At least two (2) or more years of experience developing reports and/or analyses in support of business decisions, business development, or strategy
  • For Senior Analyst: At least four (4) or more years of experience independently developing reports and/or analyses in support of business decisions, business development, or strategy and presenting the findings to the stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
  • MBA/MS in Data Science, Statistics or other relevant Master’s degree preferred
  • Advanced understanding of statistical methods
  • An interest in health economics, health policy, pharmaceutical manufacturing or pharmaceutical regulations
  • Advanced analytical, data manipulation and visualization skills
  • High proficiency in Excel
  • Comfort working with multiple data sets simultaneously
  • High degree of business acumen required with keen consultative skills
  • Excellent time and project management skills
  • Has the ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Has the ability to handle change
  • Excellent verbal, writing and interpersonal communication
  • Pre-existing knowledge / experience of data wrangling, ETL and use of publicly available APIs

For Senior Analyst:

  • Has the ability to design and execute analyses independently
  • Proficiency in presenting findings and providing thought leadership
  • Ability to handle ambiguity and large data interpretation and make recommendations with incomplete information
  • Has the ability to explain highly technical or complex issues succinctly to a non-technical audience
  • Highly self-motivated and able to handle multiple concurrent projects
