Air Force Magazine is looking for a Technology Editor to work full-time in the magazine’s Arlington, Va., office.
One of the world’s foremost aerospace and defense publications, Air Force Magazine is the authoritative source for news and insight on the U.S. Air Force, airpower, strategy, operations, people, and technology. The magazine is the journal of the private Air Force Association, a 501c(3) nonprofit organization, and fully independent of the U.S. Air Force.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for news; for the air, space and cyber domains; and for emerging technologies and national security. We’re looking for a journalists who can see over the horizon and ask questions today that readers will want answered tomorrow – one who enjoys digging into complicated topics then explaining them in plain English for a diverse and expert audience.
The successful candidate will be able to produce timely breaking news for our Daily Report and easily pivot to write deeply reported long-form articles for our magazine. We seek a self-starter and team player who is intensely curious and eager to learn more every day, while covering a broad beat including space, cyber, and enabling technologies. Occasional domestic and international travel required.
Job requirements include the following:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- Three years covering defense, technology or related beats
- Working knowledge of the Air Force, aircraft, and aerospace technology
- Demonstrated ability to write both long-form and short-form news stories on complex topics
- Experiencing covering Congress a plus
- Fluency and interest in social media (Facebook, Twitter) required; experience with video, podcasting helpful
