The Registered Nurse Education Specialist systematically develops criteria for and evaluates the effectiveness of nursing practice and organizational systems, develops and implements initiatives to improve quality of care and service, provides relevant education to nurses, maintains and enhances clinical competence, fosters a positive outlook on lifelong learning, directs the development of educational activities and planning programs that increase breadth and depth of nurses' knowledge.


•\tCoordinates nursing orientation
•\tFacilitates competency training and verification
•\tLeads certification preparation and attainment initiatives
•\tParticipates in the revision or development of patient care policies, protocols, procedures
•\tFosters continued professional development of staff members


•\tCurrent MD or compact state nursing license
•\tCurrent BLS from the American Heart Association
•\tS.T.A.B.L.E. and NRP required (must be obtained within 6 months of employment)
•\tBSN required; MSN preferred
•\tFour years' experience in clinical specialty area
•\tTwo years' education and/or staff development experience preferred
•\tCertification in clinical specialty area or in nursing professional development preferred
