The University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business is seeking an experienced professional to fill the role of Assistant Director for the Full-time MBA Admissions program. One of 13 schools and colleges located on the University of Maryland, College Park campus, the Smith School is a recognized leader in management research and education for the global economy. The school is consistently ranked among the world’s top business schools by leading business publications such as Business Week, Financial Times, Economist and the Wall Street Journal.
The Assistant Director is a creative self-starter responsible for recruiting high-quality applicants to our graduate business programs and in doing so, works to ensure a first-rate experience for candidates beginning with the very top of the admissions funnel through matriculation; works cross-functionally with admissions operational staff and collaborates with appropriate Smith personnel as needed for recruiting events, activities and general support. Creates new outreach initiatives and pipeline development including sponsored MBA candidates. Represents the Smith School at various recruiting functions, activities and events ensuring the highest quality representation and professionalism. Works with Director of MBA Admissions and Admissions staff to develop and execute tactical recruitment plans to support departmental, school-wide and institutional strategies. Both domestic and international recruitment involving travel is significant during mid-Summer and throughout the Fall.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required plus a minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible professional level experience in an academic or corporate environment. Self-starter with the ability to succeed in a fast-paced, high-energy environment; Sound judgment; Strong oral and written communication skills; both one-to-one and group presentation. Strong work ethic; proven passion for providing high-quality customer service; proven ability to collaborate and integrate new ideas and concepts; proven ability to make effective use of time, plan ahead, and coordinate multiple projects. Developed organizational and computer skills, strict attention to details; friendly, flexible, service-oriented manner; proven ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders at various levels including students, faculty, corporate clients, executives and staff. Proven ability to respond positively to extreme pressures of time and workload; ability to work in a highly independent manner at times across functions within the school; ability and willingness to work extended hours as required ability and desire to work in a team-based environment; ability to travel to off-site locations, out of state and out of the United States. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree preferred. Experience working with Full-time MBA Admissions preferred, as well as 3+ years of experience working in a business school environment and graduate/executive education. Direct customer service or consultative sales experience preferred
