Director, College of Sciences Major Instrumentation Cluster
The College of Sciences is seeking candidates for the Director, College of Sciences Major Instrumentation Cluster (COSMIC) (full-time, 12 month) position. This position will manage the COSMIC, which provides shared-use instrumentation as part of a cost center for use by internal and external users. The major instrumentation in the center is quite varied, requiring broad technical skills and expertise, and it is anticipated that the range of instrumentation in the center will grow over time.
Required Education: Master’s degree in physical sciences, life sciences, or related discipline with substantial training in advanced analytical chemistry at the graduate level.
Required Qualifications: Advanced knowledge of chemical principals as would be commensurate with knowledge obtained from a master’s degree in chemistry or biochemistry/related disciplines and substantial training in advanced analytical chemistry at the graduate level. Considerable experience conducting laboratory analysis of materials using common laboratory practices, standards, and instruments including mass spectrometry and NMR. Considerable experience providing analytical support and advice to internal staff and external customers for environmental and other samples. Considerable experience managing a team of laboratory personnel. Demonstrated experience developing professional relationships with laboratory customers. Considerable experience managing diverse technical projects. Ability to train and oversee staff, students and other users. Ability to organize, set up and manage the cost center. Good communication skills. Ability to enter into collaborative research relationships with faculty for the publication of results.
Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to learn new techniques and master new instrumentation.
