Intellectual Property Legal Fellow
The Center for the Protection of Intellectual Property (CPIP) at George Mason University School of Law is dedicated to the scholarly analysis of intellectual property rights and the technological, commercial, and creative innovation they facilitate. CPIP explores how strong property rights in innovation and creativity can foster successful and flourishing individual lives and national economies. Ultimately, CPIP seeks to promote a healthy academic discussion, grounded in rigorous scholarship, and a well-informed public policy debate about the importance of intellectual property.
CPIP seeks an Intellectual Property Legal Fellow
CPIPs research projects are deeply engaged with current issues in intellectual property law and policy. This position is an opportunity to work on cutting-edge research on the law, policy, history, and economics of intellectual property, with an emphasis on research and writing on patent law and policy.
The position is full-time and is for a one-year term with a possibility of renewal.
Responsibilities: At the direction of CPIPs executive leadership, responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Research legal, policy, and related topics using traditional and online legal and academic research methods
- Draft research papers, policy briefs, essays, amicus briefs, and other relevant materials
- Participate in designing a variety of studies and research projects on a range of legal and policy issues in intellectual property
- Work with a team to complete multiple concurrent projects
- Assist with planning and organizing academic roundtables, symposia, and other events
- Manage research assistants Required Qualifications:
- A J.D. degree and a background in intellectual property law.
Desired Qualifications and Skills: * A J.D. degree with experience in intellectual property law and policy and with specific experience in patent law or policy * Demonstrated ability to work in teams to complete projects * Strong analytical and research skills * Strong spoken and written communication skills * Excellent computer skills and willingness to learn new software and research services * Highly self-motivated and detail-oriented with an ability to advance projects in a self-directed way * Flexibility in responding to new research opportunities as they arise * Background in economics and/or empirical studies is a plus
