    To be eligible for the Recent Graduates Program, applicants must have, within the previous 2 years*, completed all educational requirements for a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying institution. For more information on education requirements go to Treasury’s Pathways Program.

    *Veterans who, due to a military service obligation, were precluded from applying to a Recent Graduates Program during any portion of the 2 year eligibility period may have their eligibility period extended so that they receive the full 2 years of eligibility. The remaining 2-year eligibility period will begin upon his or her release or discharge from active duty. The veteran's eligibility period may not extend beyond 6 years from the date of completion of all requirements of an academic course of study.

    Basic Requirements for the General Engineer:

    Degree: Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor’s degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

    Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following:

    Professional registration -- Current registration as a professional engineer by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Absent other means of qualifying under this standard, those applicants who achieved such registration by means other than written test (e.g., State grandfather or eminence provisions) are eligible only for positions that are within or closely related to the specialty field of their registration. For example, an applicant who attains registration through a State Board's eminence provision as a manufacturing engineer typically would be rated eligible only for manufacturing engineering positions.

    Written Test-- Evidence of having successfully passed the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination, or the written test required for professional registration, which is administered by the Boards of Engineering Examiners in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico.

    Specified academic courses -- Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements. The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of a professional engineering curriculum as described in paragraph A.

    Related curriculum -- Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.     The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

    Additional Requirements for the General Engineer:

    To qualify for the Grade 11level, you must meet the following requirements:

    A. Education: 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.

    OR

    B. Specialized Experience:You may qualify with one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: 

           --Communicating analysis information through oral discussions/presentations and written fact sheets/reports; AND

           --Applying principles and concepts of general engineering in order to research, interpret and carry out assignments; AND

           --Providing assistance for investigating, analyzing, and correcting adverse quality trends or conditions.

    OR

    C. You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.

    To qualify for the Grade 09 level, you must meet the following requirements:

    A. Education: 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree

    OR

    B. Specialized Experience: You may qualify with one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: 

          

           --Communicating analysis information through oral discussions/presentations and written fact sheets/reports; AND

           --Applying principles and concepts of general engineering in order to research, interpret and carry out assignments.

    OR

    C. You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    • Submit to a drug test prior to your appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position.
    • Obtain and use a Government-issued charge card for business-related travel.
    • Wear required safety clothing and/or equipment required by the position.  This may include safety shoes, hard hats, hearing protection, gloves, masks, etc.
