Foundation Support Specialist

George Mason University Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-private foundation and a private corporation organized and operated exclusively for the benefit of George Mason University. The Foundation manages, invests, and administers private gifts, including endowments and real property for the benefit of the University.

This part-time position, typically 20 hours per week, provides financial support to the accounting department within the Foundation. The position completes the financial reporting for certain real estate projects, and provides back office support for the foundation and various other projects.   • Records and manages all financial activity for real estate subsidiaries.
  • Reviews and records all activity on a monthly basis.
  • Communicates with property managers, trustees and bank personnel to reconcile appropriate information.
  • Reconciles real estate bank statements, property manager statements, trustee statements and other information as needed.
  • Prepares monthly reconciliation of the projects.
  • Enters and posts journal entries for the Foundation Business Office.
  • Assists with established and filing of departmental accounting records, journal entries, and other accounting correspondence as appropriate.

Required Qualifications: Education: Minimum of bachelor’s degree in business field or combination of equivalent education and work experience.

Experience: This individual must be self-motivated and able to work independently. Demonstrated general accounting and administrative experience. Ability to utilize accounting databases and fundraising databases in completion of tasks.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Key skills include excellent oral and written communication abilities. The individual must be organized and able to manage overlapping tasks. Knowledge of financial reconciliation and familiarity with accounts payable is beneficial. Ability to develop a clear understanding of Foundation and University policies to clearly communicate policy information is essential.

Preferred Qualifications: Previous work experience in a financial environment.
