This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of the a Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic without more than normal supervision as demonstrated by: 1) Maintain and repair highly complex Direct Digital Control (DDC) environmental monitoring and control systems (EMCS) which use special purpose computers to store operating parameters and initiate adjustments; 2) Utilize blueprints, schematics, work orders, etc. to lay out slant, routing, etc. of system; and 3) Use a variety of testing devices such as electronic recorder, velocity meters, ohm meters, watt meters, vapor tester, chemical analysis tester, hygrometer, capacity meters, calipers, feeler gauges, dial indicator, electronic leak detector and manometers to diagnose and locate equipment malfunctions. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

Work requires considerable walking, standing, climbing, sitting and moving, in shop, at computer and work site. Work upon occasion is performed in cramped or abnormal positions. Frequently lifts and carries instruments, tools test equipment, repair parts, or components weighing up to 50 pounds. Controls must be tested, calibrated and adjusted while equipment and processes are in operation.
Exposed to gas, smoke, ash and coal dust. Works outside on top of buildings, in hot and drafty attic spaces, and in cramped areas with low overheads. Subject to injury from moving machinery, and energized electrical equipment. Exposed to high temperature pipes and equipment, and discomfort from fumes, moisture and temporary extremes. Uncomfortable face masks and protective clothing will be worn occasionally.
Work is performed inside and outside, in a dirty, and greasy environment. Upon occasion repairs must be made in bad smelling areas. Frequent exposures to the possibility of scrapes, burns, infections, and infrequently to the possibility of broken bones.
Variable temperatures occur when working in cold storage rooms; possible respiratory disorders due to inhalation of refrigerant gases.
A forty-hour work week is typical for this position.
