This position assists in managing and administering all aspects of work related to the Kennedy Center International Committee on the Arts (KCICA) as well as fundraising for international programming and major Kennedy Center international festivals.

The Assistant Manager will work with the Manager of National and International Advancement to develop and plan solicitations and stewardship of individuals providing support for the Kennedy Center's international programming, while working to build productive relationships.

The Assistant Manager must establish, promote, and strengthen relationships between the Kennedy Center and committee members to maximize revenue to achieve the Center's mission. Duties include cultivation and stewardship of current committee members by creating and implementing innovative strategies for securing major gifts; expanding the KCICA donor community across the country and internationally by managing prospects and coordinating solicitations to potential new members; successful planning and execution of committee events, meetings, and international summits; preparing donor communications; and other activities related to maintaining an active, informed, and committed constituency. The Assistant Manager of International Advancement may also be expected to take on assignments related to prospecting and fundraising for the general fund, capital campaign, and specific programmatic needs of the Kennedy Center.

Time is spent coordinating and facilitating the daily functions of the KCICA and fundraising for the Kennedy Center's international programming and festivals, which raise approximately $2.8 million annually from more than 100 major donors across the country and around the world.

The Assistant Manager must be able to exercise discretion in order to prioritize assignments and work under significant pressure, as many projects are time sensitive, involving concurrent deadlines and donor interaction. An eagerness to communicate and problem solve with a positive attitude is essential.

The Assistant Manager demonstrates an ability to plan, organize, and manage time and projects for maximum productivity. Demonstrated ability to shift priorities in order to achieve high-value work is a must. The Assistant Manager works to build productive relationships throughout the organization as well as customarily and regularly exercises discretion and independent judgement in the pursuit of job objectives and goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

30% With Manager and Vice President, assist in conceiving, planning, and executing committee events, meetings, and international summits.

25% Work with Vice President and Manager to develop and execute solicitation strategy for current and prospective committee members, to encompass: research, prospecting, solicitation, cultivation, and gift tracking.

20% Implement fundraising strategy for international programming and festivals by:

    Coordinating with programming staff to solicit information about program/project/festival plans as they are developed Coordinating the solicitation and renewals of individual donors, foundations, government entities, and corporate donors

15% Act as day-to-day point of contact for KCICA committee members. Maintain routine communications with members by email, phone, and in-person; coordinate committee communication materials and informational updates.

10% Carefully maintain and coordinate committee-related data and fundraising materials, including but not limited to: income and expense budgets, gift processing, payment reminders, prospect lists, contracts, correspondence, donor recognition materials, etc.

Education/Experience

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a concentration in arts management, business administration, communications/marketing, or a related field of study required. 2-3 years individual fundraising or equivalent experience. Superior administrative and organizational skills are necessary, as is familiarity with standard non-profit accounting procedures and practices.

Minimum Skills and/or Knowledge Required

  • The incumbent must possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of the performing arts and event coordination experience is preferred.
  • This position requires a high level of interpersonal, organizational, planning, problem-solving, and written and oral communications skills. The ability to relate well in a professional and easy manner to donors and committee members of all levels, as well as with other Kennedy Center staff members is critical.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple and varied time-sensitive responsibilities and projects, while maintaining a congenial and professional demeanor in a consistently fast-paced environment.
  • The candidate must have the ability and confidence to work without close supervision, to foresee development needs, and to generate work for this position as well as the Assistant of International Advancement and seasonal intern.
  • Fundraising efforts are conducted for multiple programs and events simultaneously, and the incumbent must be able to prioritize and manage many varied and time-sensitive tasks.
  • Creativity and an excellent command of the English language are critical to identifying funding sources, matching their interests to projects, and persuasively communicating, both in person and in writing, the need for funding.
  • A professional and cordial demeanor, tact, flexibility, and diplomacy are imperative as the candidate is regularly in contact with people at all levels of society and business including Kennedy Center leadership, major donors, prospects, and other Center personnel.
