Relocation expenses reimbursed Yes Entitlements for payment of basic moving expenses, as required and to the extent allowed by the Federal Travel Regulations (FTR) 302-3.101, are authorized for eligible applicants changing duty station when the change meets the distance tests as provided in FTR 302-1.1 and 302-2.6. This is an interdisciplinary position and may be filled in any of the job series/position titles listed. In addition to the specialized experience requirements, applicants must submit proof that they meet the educational requirements for at least one of the series described in the announcement. Applicants may only be appointed to job series/position titles for which they meet all experience and educational requirements.
GS-0401: Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
GS-1301: Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. OR Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to the basic requirements above, you will also need one year of specialized experience at the lower grade level.
GS-14: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as: Conducting wildland fire and fuels research and aiding in the development of strategic research plans; Directing long-term research projects of regional or national scope; Serving as a recognized expert in the field of wildland fire and fuels with a record of publication; Leading natural resource research projects and building coalitions to achieve timely and high quality results to advance science;, and the management of scientific research.
GS-15: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as: Serving as a senior advisor to top-level agency officials as a recognized authority in wildland fire and fuels; Assisting policy and decision makers in understanding complex scientific issues; Formulating and providing natural resources guidance to a complex research program; Overseeing work that has significant effects over a wide region or over multiple natural resource programs; Developing a strategic plan for natural resource research programs; Participating in and leading interdisciplinary teams.
The USDA Forest Service has legislative authority to recruit and fill Permanent (Career/Career-Conditional), Temporary, and Term Appointments under the USDA Demonstration Project. Under this authority, any U.S. citizen may apply.
