Incumbent serves as a developer and Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV) programs supporting TARDEC's Ground Vehicle Robotics (GVR) organization responsible for conducting, monitoring, directing and coordinating research, design, development and engineering activities on assigned UAV efforts for ground vehicle robotic areas.

Essential Job Functions:

Activities may include conducting specific research and trade off analysis, executing market surveys, investigating technology transfer/insertion opportunities, requirements and specification development, contract and test monitoring, failure analysis, cost reduction analysis, production engineering, configuration management, and technical field support.

Directs and participates in the preparation of program plans, documentation, schedules, budgets, and milestones necessary for the overall planning and execution of the assigned program.

Develops, reviews, evaluates and makes recommendations concerning acquisition documents, priorities, schedules, cost estimates, budgets, milestones and other program matters bearing on project/program assignments.

Reviews contractor performance and provides technical direction to the contractor (serves as COTR) on the application and integration of improved designs into the system.

Using expertise with UAV efforts; reviews and advises on preliminary design studies on new or improved items, components, structures, and major subsystems, as well as engineering changes which may affect military characteristics.

Performs Test, Evaluation, Verification, and Validation (TEVV) on UAVs by preparing and reviewing test plans, observes tests and analyzes test results to determine adequacy of system and subsystem performance and recommends corrective action to eliminate deficiencies.

Develops UAV behaviors and assures that components, structures, software, electronics, electrical, power train, hydraulics, vulnerability/survivability elements comprising the system are compatible, and that engineering compromises necessary in the vehicle/system design are beneficial to system performance.

Performs and evaluates engineering studies, such as operational and functional characteristics pertaining to assigned systems/components. As required, coordinates the work of other engineers in the performance of individual project or program assignments.

Maintains close working relationship with engineering and management personnel within the government and at other commercial facilities to provide advice and assistance, resolve problems, exchange information, etc.

Requirements Due to the sensitivity of customer related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.

Bachelor's degree plus 5 plus years with UAV systems research and development.

Secret security clearance required.

Reviews and evaluates technical information, intelligence data and other information to keep abreast of developments relating to projects in the United States and other countries, and assures that the latest engineering and scientific knowledge is applied to the projects or programs involved.

Assist in the development of the “UAV as an Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) payload” roadmap for future TARDEC GVR efforts.
