Responsibilities: Performs daily benefits functions for faculty and staff; receives, reviews and processes enrollment benefit, retirement, and workers' compensation forms for all new hires; including Faculty, Exempt, Non-Exempt and Contingent employees; aggressively and consistently communicates benefits changes to Faculty and Staff via memo, website, training, briefings, posters, and through other technologically innovative modes; researches, analyzes and consolidates data for reports, such as tuition remission, open enrollment, retirement, workers' compensation and OSHA; administers the USM Tuition Remission Program for Bowie State University's Faculty, Staff, Contingent IIs, Dependents and Graduate Students which include regular report generation, processing and retention of Tuition Remission forms and ensures proper deduction for taxable tuition; communicates changes as appropriate; closes out benefits files for all regular and contingent II employees who terminate from the University; makes changes related to salary, transfers and other personnel action for Contingent II employees through the Action/Reason process in PeopleSoft as appropriate; assists in establishing and updating human resources files and databases; reviews and audits data for accuracy; ensures confidentiality of information as required; coordinates benefits programs such as New Hire Orientation, Open Enrollment Seminar, Pre-Retirement Seminar, and other programs as assigned; assists in the coordination of disability leave, maternity leave, and Family and Medical Leave; gathers and consolidates data for reports following general instructions; prepares correspondence and recurring reports; contributes to the Office of Human Resources HR4U newsletter; attends the System-wide Benefits Coordinators' meetings and completes associated System's reports; responsible for the communication and implementation of State and System benefits as appropriate.
Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business, Public Administration, or related field required. Certification in Human Resources desirable. Experience with PeopleSoft, Workday, or other online enterprise systems required. Minimum four (4) years of experience working in Human Resources, which includes 2 years Benefits experience. State of Maryland benefits experience is a plus. Must be able to pass a Microsoft Office Skill Assessment Test. Thorough knowledge of Human Resources practices and procedures with special emphasis on benefits. Skilled in using computers and software to include Windows/Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); in organizing and executing multiple assignments under specific time constraints. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to provide guidance and training to others; to maintain poise and courtesy under pressure; to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and tact; and to accurately perform mathematical computations; to operate standard office equipment.
SALARY: $50,000 - $60,000 Range: II
