The Kingsbury Center is one of the oldest nonprofit educational institutions in the Washington area that addresses the special needs of young children, adolescents and adults who experience learning difficulties. The Center is seeking an Upper School Math Teacher for the 2018-2019 school year. We offer a competitive salary commensurate with experience and education.

The Kingsbury Center uses a variety of techniques in the classroom and are comfortable integrating technology into the curriculum. The school expects candidates to proficiently differentiate instruction. Kingsbury seeks an experienced specialist who has a background in curricular and pedagogical innovation. Responsibilities for this position also include collaboration and full participation in a school-wide department to ensure excellent scope and sequence.

Essential Duties

  • Work collaboratively with program directors, administrators and teachers to develop and implement a comprehensive math intervention program
  • Use current and relevant assessment tools to identify students in need of intervention
  • Identify specific areas of ability, deficiency, interest and/or talent to guide the development of an appropriate intervention program for each student
  • Evaluate student performance relative to established grade level standards and individualized goals and progress
  • Monitor the effectiveness and pacing of instruction relative to class and individual student proficiency and progress
  • Provide curriculum support and training for all teachers and continuous staff development that supports school division initiatives
  • Model and coach instructional methods in a variety of settings (whole group and small group) and provide follow-up support
  • Collaborate with and coach teachers on the use of assessment data to plan instruction; analyze school math data and plan for future needs
  • Provide ongoing training and follow-up in the use of assessment tools
  • Select instructional materials to meet student needs
  • Participate in collaborative instructional planning
  • Conduct classroom visitations and provide feedback to teachers and administrators on the school’s math intervention program
  • Maintain an organized system and accessible location for the storage and circulation of math materials
  • Maintain a comprehensive inventory of instructional materials and resources
  • Assist with the planning and delivery of parent workshops and informational sessions involving the math program
  • Participate in parent conferences and provide instructional suggestions
  • Remain grounded in content standards and objectives in order to facilitate integrated and concept based instruction
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Must possess a Master’s degree 
  • Three years of successful teaching experience in which the teaching of math was a primary responsibility
  • Two years of special education experience 
  • Math Specialist license preferred; required within one year of hire
  • Display a complete understanding of the philosophy and models for providing intervention instruction to at-risk students
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the nature and needs of students with learning differences
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of current instructional and behavior management techniques, assistive aids, curriculum scope and sequence and content area
  • Demonstrated knowledge of special education best practices
  • Demonstrated skills in written and oral communication
  • Able to change daily routine to meet the changing needs of students
  • Able to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team
  • Able to stand, move throughout the campus, operate a computer, ascend and descend stairs, stoop, kneel and crouch
