Under the direction of the Anesthesiologist, CRNA & Lead Anesthesia Tech assists anesthesia provider in performing a variety of anesthesia preparations and procedures in the Operating Room setting and in remote anesthetizing locations. Supports the anesthesia team by preparing, maintaining, and cleaning equipment used during a surgical procedure which involves anesthesia. Troubleshoots any anesthesia equipment failures. Taking into consideration the age and development needs of each patient, sets up equipment, monitoring, and rapid blood delivery devices, for intra-operative use. Readies anesthetizing location and anesthesia equipment for subsequent use at the end of each case.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities

•\tChanges circuit tubing and suction tubing. Wipes off used cables and cart. Disposes of empty syringes and/or needles
•\tChanges soda lime as needed
•\tCleans and reorganizes all equipment and supplies after each operating room is closed for the night. Ensures that all operating rooms are ready for use the following day.
•\tCleans and maintains anesthesia machines
•\tCleans and maintains the anesthesia workroom

Waste Disposal:
•\tEmpties, cleans and relines waste baskets
•\tPicks up and transports non-biological waste safely and according to medical center policies

Assists Anesthesia Team in set-up of Operating Room:
•\tSets up anesthesia equipment and understands the function and use of each item
•\tDemonstrates troubleshooting ability for anesthesia delivery system (anesthesia machines) and monitoring equipment
•\tSets up for OR cases e.g. preparation of airway equipment
•\tAnticipates need for invasive monitoring according to daily schedule
•\tAssists anesthesia provider with induction of patient anticipating needs.
•\tAssists anesthesia provider, as needed, with regional anesthesia e.g. positioning spinal or epidural patients

•\tDons gloves, shoe covers, cap and mask according to procedures and policies
•\tStocks and replenishes supplies and equipment as necessary
•\tReports malfunctioning, broken or hazardous equipment or conditions to appropriate supervisory personnel
•\tChecks dates on dates supplies to assure sterilization is current and reports outdated supplies to appropriate supervisory personnel
•\tCalibrates the anesthesia machine oxygen sensors daily
•\tPrepares IV set-ups
•\tPrepares arterial line set-ups
•\tPrepares pressure transducer set-ups
•\tLabels and stocks supplies
•\tSets up the blood warmer
•\tDemonstrates principles of sterile technique when setting up and handling items on a sterile field. Maintains integrity of the sterile field.

Education/Training Requirements
•\tHigh school diploma or GED
•\tCNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) or Completion of Anesthesia Technician Program
•\tBLS Required from AHA (American Heart Association
•\tPrevious experience preferred but not required
Work Schedule:

Work shift is variable to include rotating weekend coverage as needed.
