Senior Research Engineer/Scientist/ Ballistic Missile Defense System Architect

1. Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of engineering/physical science, and extensive experience in performing theoretical calculations, simulations, and modeling of components, structures, and systems in laboratories, production facilities, and program offices.
2. Comprehensive knowledge of ballistic missile defense or other major weapons systems architectures, threats, missions, and issues; and the ability to communicate and coordinate such with other highly regarded scientists and engineers in fields related to technology and engineering, and with technical officials in MDA, OSD, Military Services, Defense Agencies, industry and academia.
3. Extensive skill and experience in the application of scientific methods, problem definitions, as well as planning and execution of complex technical studies, experiments and research protocols.
4. Demonstrated ability to form teams to pursue joint architecture analysis activities with partners from the Military services, other agencies, industry, and academia.
NOTE: This is an interdisciplinary job. The series assigned to the individual position under this job will be selected from either the 0801/1301 series based on the selectee's paramount qualifications at the time of selection.
Failure to meet any one of the technical qualifications requirements automatically disqualifies an applicant from further consideration.
Specialized experience must include at least three years of specialized experience in engineering studies and analysis or system engineering.
At least one year of the specialized experience must be at least equivalent to the GS-15 level.
Applicants must be recognized as leading authorities in the fields of physical science and/or engineering. Although an Engineering or Physical Science and at least ten years of experience in missile defense systems or other major weapons systems is mandatory, a Masters or PhD in a scientific, engineering or technical management discipline is highly desired.
This is a Critical Acquisition Position, Level Ill Certification, in Systems Planning, Research Development, and Engineering (SPRDE). The selectee must be an Acquisition Corp member at the time of permanent selection or have been granted a waiver for membership. Acquisition Corp membership and Career Field Certification must be achieved within the first twenty-four (24) months of service, unless waived by the appropriate defense official, i.e. Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Development; or the Director of Acquisition Career Management (DACM). The incumbent must complete 80 continuous learning points every two years.
Financial Disclosure: Senior Professionals are required to comply with the provisions of the Ethics in Government Act, P.L. 95-521, which requires the submission of a financial disclosure statement (SF-278), upon assuming a SL/ST position. This must be submitted annually and upon termination of employment.
Background Investigation: This position is designated as Special Sensitive and requires a background investigation be conducted and favorably adjudicated in order to establish eligibility for Top Secret/SCI security clearance.
