Job Description Summary

Montgomery College, Vice President & Provost Office, located in Takoma Park/Silver Spring, MD, has need for a full-time Arts Center Manager, position #S03771. This is a full-time, exempt, non-bargaining position, Grade 29. The core work hours are Monday through Friday 8:30-5:00, however based on the nature of the job, the work schedule will vary often and frequently includes weekend and evening hours.

Job Summary: Under the supervision and/or direction of the Vice President & Provost at the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus, the manager is responsible for the functions, development, and leadership of a Cultural Arts Center (CAC), in its service to the College and community. The manager will implement the center's mission and manage the day-to-day activities and operations, budget, financial planning, staff supervision, internal and external programming, advocacy, outreach, and development. The manager will oversee marketing and appropriate use of the center.

Contacts are with faculty, staff, students, and administrators at the College and individuals and groups outside of the College representing various cultural and community organizations. The Manager will meet with general clients, including representatives from academic, community, arts, business, and government organizations. Interactions include a substantial number of rental clients.Job Description

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Oversee, manage, develop, and administer programs, providing secondary curricular support to the varied academic disciplines represented throughout Montgomery College.
  • Cooperate with and provide support for the academic and partnership programs including publicity, house management, box office management and technical assistance, all in keeping with the CAC policies and procedures.
  • Directly supervise a full time Theater Production Manager and temporary staff members who support the functions of the CAC.
  • Develop and establish comprehensive internship programs, and provide the possibility of internships for students preparing for work in performing arts and cultural institutions with an exhibition component.
  • Serve administrative, academic, and student concerns equally, with particular emphasis on the community specifically seeking to present cultural programming.
  • Initiate, prepare, and establish functional policies and procedural guidelines related to the use of the complex.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in humanities, theater, communications or related field.
  • Cultural and performing arts management experience in programs and institutions serving the general public or related field.
  • Minimum of five years of working experience in a performing or media setting. Understanding of educational/academic programs and functions.
  • Working knowledge of strategic planning, process of budget management, grant applications, management, donor cultivation, fundraising, marketing, public relations, and overseeing graphic designs.
  • Working knowledge of comprehensive public cultural program schedules, artistic programs in the performing/visual arts, adult/children's outreach programming, and speakers.
  • Working knowledge of professional technical production equipment, practices, including lighting, sound, safety, risk management strategies for backstage practices, and large public venues.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite applications, knowledge of ticketing software and credit card machines.
  • Position requires sensitivity to the needs diverse user groups, and the ability to handle difficult situations diplomatically.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple tasks according to strict deadlines.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in the Theater Arts, Media or Communications.
  • Supervisory experience in an academic setting or higher education.
