Assistant Editor, The Nation’s Health
Assistant editor sought for public health newspaper. The American Public Health Association is seeking an enthusiastic, innovative team player for its award-winning monthly newspaper, The Nation’s Health. Successful candidate must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle range of tasks simultaneously and work hands-on with all aspects of the newspaper and its related products. The assistant editor engages in reporting, writing, copyediting, design, production and management of monthly newspaper and its website, TheNationsHealth.org, and contributes to communications work of association. Must be fast learner and self-starter with superior organization skills who is comfortable managing varied workload. Candidate should have strong interpersonal skills and a passion for news and be adept at working as part of small team. Prior journalism experience mandatory, including at least five years’ experience in reporting, editing, design and production, preferably at a newspaper. Journalism degree required, as is strong knowledge of AP Style and social media. Experience with Macs, layout design and Photoshop necessary. Knowledge of health, photography and basic website/CMS skills beneficial.
Hours: 35 hours a week, Full-time, Monday thru Friday.
