Visual Resources Curator
The George Mason University, History and Art History Department seeks an organized and self-motivated Visual Resources Curator to provide visual resources for art history teaching and research faculty. Responsibilities: This individual will provide support to faculty teaching art history. Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: managing the visual resource collection; supporting faculty instruction by producing, retrieving, and cataloguing images using a variety of platforms and sources; staying abreast of current trends in the management and presentation of digital images and issues with copyright; providing instruction on and maintaining knowledge of a variety of relevant digital tools and technologies; and assisting with administrative tasks relating to department-wide marketing and communication efforts.
Required Qualifications: The successful candidate must be well-organized, possess excellent communication skills and be familiar with the history of art, architecture and design from the Paleolithic era to the present, worldwide.The individual will possess strong Photoshop, website and scanning skills and demonstrate good attention to detail with the ability to work independently. The candidate must demonstrate proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet usage, database production, digital image software, cataloguing systems, and data output (specifically Artstor Shared Shelf). B.A. in Art History or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required.
Preferred Qualifications: M.A. in Art History or equivalent professional experience is desired, as well as 3-5 years in visual resources collection or database management. Since the position also involves communication and marketing tasks for the department, the successful candidate should also possess strong writing skills and familiarity with social media.
