Job Summary:

Westat is looking for a part-time experienced coder/mapper who is and has experience with using the GEMs to map ICD-9 codes to ICD-10.  Candidates must be able to work an average of 25 hours per week on an as needed basis, during standard business hours. This is a 6-7 month  temporary assignment.

Job Responsibilities:

· Assist with a review of the mapping rules for a code translator process to inform the development of a history table that will allow for programmatic coding of fully-specified ICD-9 codes to ICD-10 codes for medical conditions reported by household respondents in a national survey of health care use and expenditures.  · Work as part of an inter-agency development team, the person will have input into updating ICD-10 business rules and processes including forward and backward updates and changes to ICD-10 codes. · Review of output files to compare code assignments and related documentation for data consistency, including performance of quality control verification for source code descriptions and guidelines for code set changes. 

Basic Qualifications:

· A bachelor's degree in a health related field with RHIA certification is required.· At least 12 years of experience with 2 years of experience in both ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding is required.  The candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrate competency in using Microsoft Word and Excel.
