Diagnoses problems, repairs, and maintains plumbing systems to include disassembling, assembling, and installation of components associated with these systems. Performs corrective and preventive maintenance on installed equipment and systems. Identifies and recommends possible plumbing system modifications/ repairs for purposes of energy conservation. Performs back-flow tests and inspections. Makes adjustments as necessary. Incumbent is considered emergency essential. Flexible working schedule is required as well as overtime, call-back and on-call.

Employment Standards MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to a high school diploma or GED issued by a state department of education; and two year technical degree in the plumbing trade; or completion of apprentice-level plumbing vocational training; or four years practical, progressively responsible plumbing experience.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
  • Valid state motor vehicle operator's license;
  • Valid journeyman plumber certification from the state of Virginia.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience using tools of the trade and experience estimating time and materials needed to complete a job. Prior knowledge and experience working with Sloan valves, three phase and single phase electric pump motors and pump motor control centers, and water heaters (e.g., gas, electric and oil). Certified cross-connection prevention device tester.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 75 pounds. Must be able to climb up to 8 foot step ladders and 35 foot extension ladders. Must be able to bend, stoop, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
