  • To qualify for the Pharmacologist, GS-405-11 position you must meet BOTH the basic requirements and specialized experience requirements:

    BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
    A bachelor's or higher degree in an appropriate biological, medical, veterinary, or physical science, or in pharmacy that included at least 30 semester hours in chemistry and physiology and 12 semester hours in pharmacology.     SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
    You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service, to includes: assisting senior Pharmacologist in performing research and/or proposing solutions to support regulatory decisions actions; experience in a research facility and/or assisting in monitoring and/or evaluating scientific quality and validity of pharmacological studies; and assess the safety of the drug based experiments.

    OR;

    Possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree (Must provide transcript(s) at time of application submission).

    Desired experience for the following Centers:

    CVM - Apply knowledge of the principles and practices of clinical pharmacology and pharmacokinetics (absorption, metabolism, distribution, and elimination) to inform scientific and regulatory decisions regarding the safety and effectiveness of animal drugs, foods, and devices. This includes employing pharmacostatistical methods to evaluate data as well as performing reviews of bioavailability, bioequivalence, and pharmacokinetic studies to assure the scientific integrity and appropriateness of study designs.

    CDER - Office of New Drugs/Office of Generic Drugs - Reviewing and interpreting pharmacology studies, data, applications, and/or reports; conducting research in pharmacology or the development of assessments that address nonclinical safety data from the pre and post marketing periods.

    CTP - Assisting in the conduct of research in pharmacology/toxicology; studies would have included adverse pharmacological effects endpoints; or instruction in pharmacological studies using computer modeling, to evaluate pharmacokinetics or adverse effects endpoints; or instruction in PBPK modeling of chemicals; or instruction in risk assessment of toxic chemicals or chemical mixtures. Provides advice and guidance in pharmacology and behavioral pharmacology science programs. Interprets invitro, preclinical, and Clinical studies used to evaluate the reinforcing effects, behavioral effects, abuse and addictiveness of related products.

    CFSAN - Assisting in developing new cutting-edge risk assessment, techniques, and methods that provide critical measurable, objective based data for assessing a broad range of risk scenarios to identify and address critical safety risk issues for a variety of hazards (i.e., biological, chemical, toxicological).
