Performs the skilled journey-level locksmith work required to install, replace, repair, and open a wide variety of mechanical and computerized locks; performs related carpentry and metalwork tasks.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, supplemented by completion of an acceptable apprentice-level locksmith training program, plus four years of progressively more responsible experience in the locksmith trade. Can demonstrate knowledge of the advantages/disadvantages and installation/repair of various key, combination, other locking devices; knowledge of the methods and skills in the use of locksmith equipment, materials, and tools; familiarity with carpentry and metalwork methods, materials, equipment, and tools; knowledge of common hazards and necessary safety precautions; knowledge of local, state, and national codes; ability to read and interpret instructions, diagrams, sketches, blueprints, and manufacturers' manuals; capability to estimate time and material needs, determine when repair is not economically practical, and perform routine tasks and arithmetical computations; and strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks including lifting, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Valid driver's license with a good driving record. May be required to work an evening and/or night shift on a regular or rotating basis, accept call-back overtime or regular overtime, and/or agree to assume an emergency call-out list status.
