MANAGER, BUDGET, REPORTING AND ANALYSIS

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Manager, Budget, Reporting and Analysis supports finance and program staff by managing financial planning activities, financial analysis, and the development and maintenance of program level budgets and financial reporting packages.

The primary duties of this position are to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial information and to support the analysis of CI’s operating expenses, serving to inform senior management of operating risks and opportunities. This position would provide direct budget, reporting and analysis support to select programs and serve as a resource for on-the-ground coordination of global budget inputs as well as provide support for CI-Wide ad hoc financial analysis requests. They would also support the development and maintenance of program and project specific financial reports.

Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment are essential skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Budget and Reporting Business Partner:

Provide advice, support, and coordination assistance to the finance, operations and program staff for financial aspects of the annual planning cycle. Provide direct support to select programs/divisions during annual planning and on an ongoing monthly basis by performing budget development and maintenance, monthly financial reporting and analysis, and processing of expense reclasses. Help facilitate timely, accurate and complete budget inputs, prepare budget instructions, training materials, and provide hands-on assistance to staff as needed.

Analysis: 

Provide financial analysis for monthly executive financial reviews. This includes budget variance for active awards, tracking of prospective awards, tracking of programmatic spending of institutional funds, and shortfall, risk & contingency management. Perform necessary follow up with divisional units based on analysis findings. Analyze budgets and spending for key donors, working closely with programmatic or development staff as required. Respond to ad-hoc analysis requests.

Reporting: 

Support development of standardized financial reporting packages for senior leadership and support the preparation of key donor financial reports, working closely with respective programmatic or development staff as required.

Financial Systems and Training:

Provide on-going support for financial system issues related to budgeting and financial reporting. Support training of divisional staff on the use of financial systems, report interpretation, budgeting best practices, processes, policies and applications. Work closely with the financial systems team.

Process Improvement and Special Projects:

Identify and support process improvement initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related work experience.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of budget management and financial reporting experience.
  • Understanding of accounting processes and standards.
  • Experience with advanced business intelligence/reporting systems.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to clearly communicate financial information to non-financial staff.

Preferred

  • Experience with Agresso Business World Financials and Clarity Systems.
  • Experience with MS Access or other database applications.
  • SQL and Visual Basic programming experience.
  • Foreign language fluency is a plus (especially Spanish, French, and Portuguese).
