In 2010, the National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC), a grassroots advocacy organization, launched Breast Cancer Deadline 2020®, with a goal of knowing how to end breast cancer by January 1, 2020. NBCC’s blueprint for Breast Cancer Deadline 2020® is a strategic plan of action for knowing how to prevent the development and spread of breast cancer. Since 1991, NBCC has been at the vanguard of the breast cancer movement – elevating breast cancer to an issue of national significance, leveraging billions of federal dollars for research and care, and empowering tens of thousands of breast cancer survivors to become effective advocates for themselves, and for all those at risk of breast cancer.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Chief Public Policy Officer the Sr. Manager, Grassroots Advocacy will develop and implement strategies to expand, support and enhance the national grassroots network by recruiting, educating and mobilizing volunteers to act on behalf of the legislative and public policy priorities of NBCC.

The Sr. Manager will serve as point of contact for the national action network and advocacy efforts of NBCC, and will create and implement specific outreach plans to increase grassroots advocates, volunteer leadership in specific regions and/or populations, including the identification and development of individuals with leadership potential.

The Sr. Manager will monitor and analyze data about member organizations, including but not limited to affiliated individuals, participation in NBCC programs and activities, and membership by state and geographic location. Serve as liaison between board organizations, state coordinator organizations, member organizations, team leaders and other key grassroots advocates. The Sr. Manager will provide ongoing coordination with President, Chief Public Policy Officer, and political consultants regarding congressional strategy development and implementation by grassroots network.

Qualifications and Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in related field and a minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in electoral campaigns, field operations, or grassroots organizing, and a demonstrated record of successful coalition-building experience, preferably with a national grassroots organization. Ability to interact at the highest level of professionalism with all grassroots advocates, member organizations, congressional staff, federal and state agencies. Experience with women’s health care, particularly breast cancer issues preferred. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
