Position has been designated as Non-Critical Sensitive; incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
New Hires are required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and are subject to random drug testing for the duration of service with DoD OIG. Organizational entities within the DoD are not required to conduct drug testing for DoD civilian employees moving by transfer or reassignment from one DoD Testing Designated Position (TDP) to another TDP with no break in service within the DoD, unless deemed appropriate on a case-by-case basis by the gaining Component.

Comprehensive knowledge of and ability to apply strategic communications and perform complex writing and editing duties that supports the presentation of technical and explanatory information. Broad knowledge of publishing concepts, practices, standards and technologies for the media used.
Ability to exercise editorial quality control during all phases of a publication production cycle. Comprehensive knowledge of the finer techniques and nuances of writing and editing. The incumbent must possess a high level of expertise in writing, editing, research techniques and methods to develop and prepare authoritative data on oversight programs, policies, services and functions. Ability to edit articles accepted for publication, often to include substantial rewriting.
Knowledge of and skilled in project management, spreadsheet, word processing and presentation graphics applications with additional skills in Internet utilization to perform research and analysis.
Knowledge of DoD organizations, missions, functions, and strategic objectives to conduct and support evaluations.
Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques to conduct data calls and perform research. Skill in the conceptualization and design of methodologies for evaluations and program reviews.
Expert skill in analyzing data and information to identify issues and develop conclusions and recommendations.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with internal staff and external organizations to maintain awareness of ongoing operations and to conduct reviews.

These positions are being filled using 5 U.S. Code subsection 3161 authority. These excepted service positions are temporary and available for 13-month increments.
These temporary positions may be terminated early or extended beyond the 13-month period based upon incumbent performance and the needs of the OIG.
