Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Modern German History

The George Mason University Department of History and Art History invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Modern German History. The department is home to the award-winning Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media and has highly ranked History PhD/MA and Art History MA programs. Faculty members have affiliations with programs across the university including African-American Studies, Cultural Studies, Islamic Studies, Women and Gender Studies, Modern and Classical Languages, and Global Affairs. George Mason is a large public university located in the Washington DC suburbs with one of the most diverse student populations in the nation. Responsibilities: Candidates for this position will have an active scholarly agenda in the field of modern German history, understood broadly to include research on Germany proper and on transcultural contact beyond Germany alone. We particularly encourage applications from candidates with demonstrated digital skills who can contribute to current and initiate new digital humanities projects.

Candidates will have a 2/2 teaching load and will have broad latitude in developing an array of undergraduate and graduate courses in and beyond modern German history according to their pedagogical and research interests, though it is expected that the candidate will teach undergraduate survey courses in modern German history, the history of Nazism, and the Holocaust. Candidates who can develop new course offerings or contribute to existing courses in digital history are particularly encouraged to apply.
