A pplicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by 11:59 pm Eastern Time on the closing date of the announcement including the following specialized experience and/or education, as identified by grade level.
Your education and experience will be evaluated against all qualification requirements (basic and any additional requirements) listed below.
Graduate education must be directly related to the work of the position and must have equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
Degree: zoology; or a related discipline or field of science that included at least 20 semester hours in zoology and related animal sciences.
Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in zoology, or in a related discipline that included course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Graduate Education: To be qualifying, graduate study must have been in one of the major fields of zoology or have followed a curriculum or pattern of training that placed major emphasis on one of these disciplines or subject-matter fields, such as nematology or parasitology.
Graduate study in related fields of science such as microbiology, medicine, veterinary medicine, or plant pathology that involved cross-training in zoology or one of the fields of zoology may also be qualifying, provided there was a sufficient amount of emphasis on zoology.
In addition to meeting the basic requirements described above, applicants must also meet additional qualification requirements as stated below.
GS-12: Applicants must demonstrate at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service or possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or possess an equivalent combination of graduate level education and experience. Graduate education must be directly related to the work of the position and must have equipped applicants with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. The specialized experience requirements for the GS-12 level of this position are: experience isolating, passaging, and extracting DNA from parasitic organisms, experience designing and implementing population genetic studies to assess the geographic structure of biological populations, experience studying the epidemiology and/or epizootiology of infectious organisms, facility with managing and interrogating genomic data, configuring and compiling bioinformatic programs, maintaining servers to store such data and implement research, experience designing and deploying molecular diagnostic assays derived from interspecific or intraspecific genetic variation.
GS-13: Applicants must demonstrate at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. The specialized experience requirements for the GS-13 level of this position are those required for the GS-12 plus: development of novel methods to interrogate natural history through novel genomic analysis, a record of publication in the areas of parasite systematics, population genetics, genomics, demography, parasite biogeography in relation to changing climate, and the evolutionary longevity of host-parasite associations.
