AIM-VA Technical Assistant and Training Specialist

The Virginia Department of Educations (VDOE) Accessible Instructional Materials - Virginia project (AIM-VA), located in the George Mason University Helen A. Kellar Institute for Human Disabilities, is seeking an experienced and dynamic professional to serve as an AIM-VA Training and Technical Assistant Specialist. Responsibilities: This position will be focused on providing technical assistance and training related to accessible instructional materials (AIM) and reading assistive technologies for educators in school divisions and state-operated programs throughout Virginia. The position is responsible for the development of technical assistance materials including tutorials, videos, and webinars; school division trainings; and supporting the production of accessible instructional materials for students with IEPs in schools.

Required Qualifications: This 12-month, grant-funded professional faculty position will require knowledge and experience in the following areas: (1) accessible instructional materials; (2) federal and state accessibility standards; (3) related assistive technology software/apps and devices, e.g., text-to-speech programs, screen readers, magnification applications, and annotation tools on multiple devices (iOS mobile, Chromebook, PCs, Mac, Android); (4) application of accessible instructional materials and reading assistive technologies with individuals with print disabilities; and (5) development of accessible technical assistance supports including video, print, website, and webinar-based materials.

In addition, required qualifications include a masters degree in assistive technology, special education or a related field, proficiency in standard productivity programs (e.g., Microsoft, Adobe and Google), and demonstrated ability to rapidly develop new software and technology skills. Applicants must also have superior communication, writing and presentation skills; strong organizational skills, including attention to detail and the ability to multitask; and the ability to collaborate effectively as a key member of the AIM-VA team.
