The Assistant General Counsel provides legal advice to United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), Catholic dioceses and diocesan attorneys, state Catholic conferences, and other Catholic organizations on issues involving tax-exempt status, including exemption qualification, public charity status, IRS reporting, disclosure and other compliance, unrelated trade or business, FICA/FUTA, taxation of benefits and related issues, as well as the tax liabilities of priests and religious.  Responsible for maintenance of USCCB group tax exemption ruling; compliance with respect to DC tax exemption and taxation of benefits; coordination of compliance regarding USCCB pension plan; legal analysis, assessment, intervention, and dissemination of information with respect to tax legislation, regulations, IRS rulings, and court cases affecting USCCB, dioceses, and other Catholic organizations; leadership on tax policy issues affecting USCCB, dioceses, and other Catholic organizations. Requirement Juris Doctor with a minimum of 5 years practice experience with at least 3 years in tax law.
