The Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC) seeks a talented and engaging leader to serve as the Director of Human Resources.  Reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer, the HR Director is responsible for organizational planning; policy development and administration; recruitment; training and development; performance management; employee compensation and classification; and benefits administration. The HR Director leads the HR staff in providing consultation and collaboration with SCC divisions to support overall business strategy.


Preferred qualifications for this position include comprehensive professional senior level experience in human resources; experience leading and managing staff; and educational background or experience in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.  Extensive knowledge of major federal and state laws and policies that govern employment and personnel issues is desirable.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to: think strategically with a "big picture" perspective; make quality and timely decisions using sound judgment; delegate responsibility and review results to ensure deliverables are met; lead projects obtaining desired results; lead and direct the performance of employees while inspiring vision and motivation in the delivery of HR services; and build trust and maintain effective working relationships with SCC leadership and staff, outside agencies, and the general public. Applicants must have the ability to lead, manage, train, coach, motivate, and develop professional staff. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills are essential.

Employees also shall report employment of household members by a regulated company. An incumbent of this position is required to complete the Statement of Economic Interests Form.
