Industry Advising and Employer Development (IAED) Intern

The George Mason University, University Career Services is seeking a motivated and collaborative graduate student to serve as an Industry Advising and Employer Development (IAED) Intern for the 2018/19 academic year. The IAED Intern will work primarily within the Industry Advising and Employer Development team, providing support across a variety of career-related areas. Position Responsibilities: STUDENT ADVISING

  • Conduct scheduled appointments to assist undergraduate and graduate students on topics including resume and cover letter writing, interviewing skills, networking, and job/internship search strategies within a specific industry
  • Assist with drop-in appointments in conjunction with the Peer Advisor team DATABASE MANAGEMENT
  • Assist with the administration and upkeep of a job and internship database, Handshake
  • Conduct review and analysis of job and internship trends in database EMPLOYER DEVELOPMENT
  • Learn the structure of the employer recruitment process and the Mason On-Campus Interviewing process
  • Coordinate select employer on-campus programs, including the planning, marketing, day-of logistics, and assessment of each event
  • Conduct outreach to targeted employers in the Northern Virginia/DC region to promote recruitment at Mason
  • Field inquiries from employers regarding best practices for connecting with departments and student organizations at the university OUTREACH
  • Promote career related opportunities to students and faculty through various campus events, newsletters, and additional forms of outreach The intern will also complete a comprehensive project within University Career Services based upon their primary area of interest and career goals. This project will be determined jointly by the intern and the intern’s supervisor at the beginning of the term. Required Qualifications:
  • Enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited institution
  • Interest in students affairs, human resources, recruiting, or other similar fields
  • Enthusiasm for facilitating small and large scale events and public speaking
  • Ability to work occasional evening hours

    This is a part-time (20 hours per week), paid position located on the George Mason Fairfax campus within University Career Services for the Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 semesters.
