Outstanding mid-size D.C. firm has an opening for a Legal Secretary with 6+ years of experience.

Firm offers an amazing culture, friendly environment, and great location!

LOCATION: Washington, D.C. (metro-accessible)

HOURS: Monday through Friday, 9:00 A.M. to 5:30 P.M.

*Must be flexible to work overtime

Mid-size D.C. branch office of a national law firm seeks a Legal Secretary with at least six (6) years of relevant experience.


>Answering telephones for attorneys as well as others in the section in a professional manner; taking messages and forwarding calls to appropriate parties

>Processing daily mail (opening, date stamping, and routing)

>Maintaining calendars of all assigned attorneys and scheduled meetings for attorneys within parameters of attorney requirements

>Drafting and revising routine correspondence and documents

>From handwritten notes, transcribing equipment, drafts, or oral instructions, performing word processing on a variety of correspondence, reports, memoranda, and legal documents as requested

>Operating office equipment such as printers, facsimile machines, photocopying machines, and PDF scanners; ensuring they are available for use (e.g. filled with paper, etc.)

>Maintaining skills necessary to function effectively and meet all expectations of the role, including the basic functions of core technology tools

>Scheduling meetings and notifying all parties involved; reminding participants of meetings

>Assisting with court filings or other department-specific tasks

>Entering important dates onto the department calendar

>Reminding attorneys of deadlines for filings, Federal Express packages, etc.

>Creating new client matter accounts (conflicts checks, intakes, retainer letters, and file opening)

>Maintaining contact lists for client matters

>Organizing and maintaining electronic and paper client files and keeping filing up to date; retrieving existing files through RIO and closing out and sending files off site

>Entering attorney time

>Assisting with monthly billing, including meeting Finance Department deadlines, photocopying, and final preparation for mailings

>Preparing travel arrangements for attorneys and for clients, if needed

>Providing coverage to other attorneys when assigned secretaries are out of the office or when workflow requires/permits


>At least six (6) years of legal secretary experience required; experience in a law firm preferred

>Accurate minimum typing speed of 55 WPM along with strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, docketing software, and client relationship management software

>Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

>Ability to interact professionally at all levels

>Client service orientation

>Ability to work in a team environment

>Strong organizational and time management skills
