    To be considered for a research scientist position, you must submit a one-page abstract of your MS thesis and/or Ph.D. dissertation. Also, submit a list of names, addresses, and phone numbers of persons familiar with your stature, contributions, recognition; any honors or awards received; memberships in professional or honor societies; invitations to make presentations at scientific/technical meetings; scientific society office and committee assignments; presentations (other than invitation); and publications.

    A pplicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by 11:59 pm Eastern Time on the closing date of the announcement including the following specialized experience and/or education, as identified by grade level.

    Your education and experience will be evaluated against all qualification requirements (basic and any additional requirements) listed below.

    Graduate education must be directly related to the work of the position and must have equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.

    Basic Requirements:

    Degree in microbiology; or biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included at least 20 semester hours in microbiology and other subjects related to the study of microorganisms, and 20 semester hours in the physical and mathematical sciences combining course work in organic chemistry or biochemistry, physics, and college algebra, or their equivalent OR a combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in microbiology, biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included courses as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

    Additional Requirements:

    In addition to meeting the basic requirements described above, applicants must also meet additional qualification requirements as stated below.

    GS-12: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service or possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or possess an equivalent combination of graduate level education and experience. Graduate education must be directly related to the work of the position and must have equipped applicants with the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work. Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience requirements for the GS-12 level are defined as:

    Experience contributing to team research related to parasites important in food safety.

    Experience managing large/complex datasets including genomic and epidemiology data.

    Experience communicating results through peer-reviewed scientific journals and giving presentations at scientific meetings.

    GS-13: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience requirements for the GS-13 level are defined as:

    Experience developing detection assays and molecular characterization of parasites important in food safety.

    Experience identifying strategies for conducting animal studies to prevent or mitigate parasite infections.

    Experience communicating results through peer-reviewed scientific journals as first author and giving presentations at scientific meetings.
