The American Physiological Society (APS), a non-profit scientific member society, is seeking a Journal Supervisor to ensure that the continuous publication of the peer-reviewed journals being supervised is on time and that all aspects related to digital and print production of the journal, including quality and quantity, are met. The Journal Supervisor will be responsible for balancing Editor in Chief priorities with APS policy guidelines and maintaining correct and up-to-date information in the print and digital publications. They will manage XML validation, proofs, author corrections, online publication, and open access for the assigned journals. Major duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing journal production schedules in rigorously timely fashion
  • Inspecting and approving all work for style consistency, accuracy and XML validation prior to composition submission
  • Discussing with authors concerns regarding editing of manuscripts and negotiating proof corrections with authors and compromising as necessary to ensure agreement with APS policy while responding to author expectations
  • Consulting with authors regarding manuscripts/proofs
  • Copy editing manuscripts and proof galleys

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English or life sciences required
  • 3-5 years of experience in STM publication
  • Expert knowledge of English grammar/punctuation
  • Expert organizational and management skills
  • Expert knowledge of scientific editing styles and markup
  • Proficient knowledge of life sciences and XML
