Position Description

SEIA seeks a strong and experienced leader to lead the organization’s advocacy efforts at the federal level. Working closely within SEIA’s executive leadership team, and at the direction of the President and CEO, the individual will manage a team of four, multiple consultants, and be responsible for all aspects of our federal affairs operations. This position works closely with and reports directly to the President and CEO.

Responsibilities & Minimum Qualifications

SEIA is entering a new phase in its federal-level advocacy and outreach. With the extension of the ITC in 2015, preservation of this important incentive during 2017’s tax reform deliberations, and recent favorable guidance from the IRS on commence construction guidelines, SEIA is in the position to move forward aggressively with a renewed strategy to drive growth of the US solar energy industry through sound and innovative federal policy and regulations. Solar’s recent policy successes, combined with the current political climate in Washington, provides SEIA with a unique set of challenges and opportunities during this critical moment for the solar industry in this country. SEIA seeks a forward-thinking and collaborative leader to help develop and drive a new federal advocacy strategy for the organization and the industry. This strategy should expand beyond the walls of Congress and should be creative and aggressive.

Qualified candidates should have an advanced degree in political science, law, or other public policy discipline with 10+ years of public policy or legislative advocacy experience. Strong working knowledge of the legislative process and relationships on both sides of the aisle are essential to success. Experience working with departments within the Administration is a plus. Must have management experience working with several internal teams and external coalitions. Ability to handle a large workload while maintaining an upbeat and positive approach is critical. Requires a proven track record of strategic planning and effective implementation. Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
