  • Positions may be subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • Positions may be eligible for part time, full time or ad-hoc telework at the discretion of management.
  • Travel requirements will vary. Travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS may be required and may include remote or isolated sites. Travel may be on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Selectee may be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.
  • May be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • This position may be a designated Critical Acquisition Position (CAP). You must be a member of the Acquisition Corps, become a member, or obtain a waiver at the time of selection and sign a three-year tenure agreement prior to assuming the position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • DP-05: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12/13) or pay band (DP-04) in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional Physicist. Examples of specialized experience may include the following: 1) Ensuring that all technical and operational requirements are met; 2) Facilitating teamwork between customers and contractor organizations to implement the proper integration of new hardware and software systems; 3) Coordinating specific avionics efforts within the assigned Program Office; 4) Determining feasibility of various advanced platform avionics systems; and 5) Ensuring technical requirements are met through proper tasking and coordination of available professional/technical resources.

    DP-04: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09/11) or pay band (DP-03) in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional Physicist. Examples of specialized experience may include the following: 1) Ensuring that all technical and operational requirements are met; 2) Facilitating teamwork between customers and contractor organizations to implement the proper integration of new hardware and software systems; 3) Coordinating specific avionics efforts within the assigned Program Office; and 4) Determining feasibility of various advanced platform avionics systems.

    DP-03: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05/09) or pay band (DP-02) in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional Physicist. Examples of specialized experience may include the following: 1) Assisting senior physicists to ensure that all technical and operational requirements are met; and 2) Providing assistance in implementing the proper integration of new hardware and software systems.

    DP-02: Applicants who meet the basic education requirement are automatically qualified for this pay band.

    Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess a degree in physics or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics; OR a combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

    Vacancies filled from this announcement may be filled at any grade level listed and in equivalent pay systems (e.g., NH, NJ, NK, etc.). Selectees may be appointed to a position with promotion potential (e.g. selected at the GS-5 grade with potential to the GS-11). If selected below the full performance level, incumbent may be noncompetitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed.

    Temporary appointments may be extended up to 3 years at the discretion of management and in accordance with applicable regulations.
