Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.  Extensive experience in supervision, operation, maintenance and training in railway systems.

Or, an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Medical Group:

Ability to satisfactorily complete the medical examination for this class.

License:

Possession of a valid District of Columbia, Maryland or Virginia motor vehicle operator's permit issued from jurisdiction of residence.

Job Summary/Duties:

This is responsible technical and supervisory systems maintenance control work.  Employee in this class is responsible for oversight, coordinating and supervising the work of the assigned Maintenance Operations Center personnel responding to equipment or system malfunctions that affect the Authority's communications, electronics, electrical power distribution, automatic train control, and computer systems.  Employee has latitude for independent judgment and action within established guidelines.  Employee is supervised by the Assistant General Superintendent, SMNT.

Exercises leadership, through the supervision and coordination of the work performed by the Maintenance Operations Center personnel in the monitoring, technical operation, maintenance and equipment recovery efforts involving the various systems within communications, power, automatic train control and computer facilities.

Interfaces directly with the Assistant Superintendent OCC and represents the General Superintendent, Systems Maintenance.

Directs all SMNT activities related to maintaining or reestablishing Rail revenue service.

Analyzes system's faults and other reports, taking action necessary to preclude or reduce system's equipment down time; ensures coordination of procedures with other maintenance functions are followed; determines resolution of work conflicts of field crews when necessary.

Coordinates for SMNT the on shift scheduling and implementation of system lineups/tagouts to support preventive and corrective maintenance.

Trains and evaluates assigned personnel.  Reviews personnel grievances with employees and attempts to resolve them in accordance with established rules and regulations of the Authority.

Enforces personnel and equipment safety policies.

Interfaces with electric utilities to maintain supply of electric power.

Maintains up to date technical knowledge of the operation and maintenance of installed equipment.

Works within established procedural guidelines, but is also required to make decisions that have little or no precedent to minimize interruption of passenger service.

Works variable hours and shifts in the MOC as Shift Manager of SMNT.

May operate an Authority vehicle as required.

Performs related duties as required.
