Position Description:
This position provides strategic leadership and administration in the areas of patient care, education, safety and quality in accordance with organizational policies and in accordance with standards of professional nursing practice utilizing the framework for professional nursing practice and development. This position promotes a professional practice environment and develops and maintains collegial and collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders across the institution to positively impact the business of clinical operations, nursing and patient care outcomes. These partnerships include ongoing collaboration with physician, facility and organizational leaders. Responsibilities include all aspects of clinical operations, clinician and patient/family education, customer service, patient safety, financial outcomes, and quality outcome management and regulatory compliance.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Advanced preparation in management and/or previous satisfactory management experience required.
  • Progressive emergency department nursing experience, at least (5) years with demonstrated leadership, administrative, and interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of emergency and ambulatory care Services.
  • Has demonstrated leadership and organization skills to achieve the goals and objectives of those specific areas.
  • Ability to promote good interpersonal relationships with staff of all disciplines.
  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing or Masters of Science in Nursing degree.
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification
  • At least five (5) years experienced as a Nurse Supervisor.
  • District of Columbia RN licensure
  • Financial and analytical skills.
  • Requires demonstrated experience leading and/or managing strategic clinical operations.
  • Requires strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate strong decision-making and critical thinking skills along with the ability to lead change
  • Demonstrate effective participation in and leadership of the health care team.
  • Initiative and ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Effective interpersonal, communication and leadership skills.
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills to deal effectively in a multi-dimensional environment.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word.
  • Knowledge of current federal and state laws and regulations that apply to the practice of nursing in a long-term care setting.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to carrying out professional responsibilities, adherence to ethical principles, and sensitivity to a diverse patient population.
  • Investigate and evaluate patient care practices, appraise and assimilate scientific evidence, and
improve their patient care practices.

  • Demonstrate the ability to handle situations unique to the practice of emergency medicine.
  • Understand the use of medical resources for immediate patient care
  • Interpersonal and communication skills that result in effective information exchange and teaming with patients, their families, and other health professionals.
  • Ensures all clinical procedures are followed to ensure patient safety, comfort, and quality
  • Requires the ability to be self-directed and quality focused
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound judgment.
  • Ability to work in a deadline driven environment, strong organizational skill, and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to make presentations before top management, public groups, and staff. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Must be able to work overtime. Must be available on an “on-call” basis. Wears a company assigned mobile phone to be summoned to the facility in an emergency and is expected to report to the facility in an emergency.
