The Department of Transportation provides project planning, engineering, design, construction management, and subsequent operation and maintenance of the County’s transportation infrastructure. The Division of Traffic Engineering and Operations seeks a full-time manager to lead, manage and direct the planning, implementation and day-to-day functions of the Traffic Engineering Studies Section.
This 16-person team is responsible for a variety of traffic engineering based County-wide program areas, to include: data collection, conducting traffic safety and operational studies, planning, designing and implementation of traffic improvements, traffic calming, pedestrian safety improvements, bicycle infrastructure and improvements, on-street parking management including administering the residential permit parking program, and oversight of Capital Projects Manager programs.
Duties include: leading, supervising and managing multiple teams of County professional and paraprofessional staff, consultants, and contractors who are responsible for planning, designing, installing and maintaining the traffic control devices infrastructure and geometric design; developing and implementing new strategies and programs; developing and monitoring budgets; developing and administering contracts for Engineering Consulting Services; establishing and maintaining effective contacts with officials of local, state, and federal governments; and meeting and corresponding with citizens and community representatives to address issues regarding traffic control devices and traffic safety; and reviewing and updating Executive Regulations governing various traffic engineering programs.
A significant component of the employees’ responsibilities involves innovative thinking and planning, utilizing sound traffic engineering principles and advances in technology that can enhance the County's efficient and effective management of a safe surface transportation system and the safety of roadway users. The position will be required to attend night meetings and other group meetings as assigned and would require the ability to attend meetings or perform work at locations outside the office.

Experience: Five (5) years of progressively responsible professional engineering experience in traffic engineering and/or transportation safety management.
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree.
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
