The main purpose of this position is to manage the overall operations of the Bridge and Soils Testing Section. This position requires a high degree of knowledge of principles, practices, and concepts in bridge testing and geotechnical subsurface exploration. This position functions with a great degree of independence and reports directly to the Field Explorations Division Chief. Additionally, this position is required to occasionally fill-in for the Division Chief in his absence by attending meetings, making decisions involving personnel issues, signing reports, and making budgetary decisions. The section consists of 16 permanent staff, including two (2) Team Leaders; and a comparable pool of onsite and offsite consultant personnel. This position is responsible for assuring that high quality data for borings and bridge testing, and accurate bridge recommendations are provided by employees of the section. It also provides oversight of the consultant drilling contracts, project schedules, quality control, and quality assurance, safety of personnel, and fiduciary responsibilities associated with this function. This position will ensure that field operations are performed according to standards. The position will also assist the Division Chief in managing OMT's vehicle budget and provide assistance in acting as liaison to the Office of Maintenance for the purchase of new and replacement vehicles. Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university., Eight (8) years experience in professional engineering, including one year of supervisory or consultant management experience. SELECTIVE QUALIFICATION: Two (2) years of experience with the concepts and methodology in Bridge Testing and/or Geotechnical Subsurface Explorations. *A selective qualification recruitment is conducted for positions when there is a specific or additional bona fide occupational qualification (ie, knowledge, skill, or ability). Additional work experience in professional engineering, or in technical engineering at the journey level or above, may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education. 2. Possession of a Master's Degree in engineering may be substituted for one year of the non-supervisory experience. 3. Persons currently registered as Professional Engineers in the State of Maryland, or in a state with comparable requirements, are considered to have met the education requirements. Licenses & Certifications Possession of a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Maryland., Please include all relevant experience on your application.
