What You Will Do:JOB SUMMARY Under minimal supervision, perform as a biomedical engineering technician and technical resource in the department for the BMET I's, BMET II's and hospital staff. Complete a significant amount of scheduled and unscheduled preventive maintenance and repair of medical equipment of basic to high complexity. Perform incoming inspections, routine maintenance, safety testing, calibration, and repairs in accordance with departmental standards and manufacturer's operator and technical service manuals.DUTIESPerforms scheduled and unscheduled preventive maintenance service, calibration and repair of medical equipment in accordance with departmental standards and manufacturer's operator and technical service manuals.Conducts departmental rounds with customers to promote communication and learn operations.Demonstrates exceptional customer service and interacts effectively with physicians, patients, visitors, staff and the broader health care community. Perform repairs, tests and calibrates medical equipment according to manufacturer's literature and other established guidelines.Performs assigned duties in accordance with current policies and procedures, including equipment inspection, minor repairs and planned maintenance, with minimal supervision.Assists in the ordering of parts and supplies necessary for the servicing of medical equipment.Completes assigned work in a timely manner.Ability to prioritize and plan scheduled daily work load with minimal supervision.Ability to troubleshoot medical equipment faults and remedy within a given time period minimal supervision.Facilitate repairs and maintenance on medical equipment with minimal supervision.Follows established procedures and works in a safe manner.Maintains timely, accurate and thorough documentation required, as outlined in current policies and procedures.Conducts cross-training in techniques of testing, calibrating, operating and troubleshooting medical equipment.Assists in the evaluation of new medical equipment, accessories and supplies.Must maintain up-to-date knowledge and understanding of regulatory agencies, policies, codes and standards that apply.Demonstrates initiative and concern for planning, time utilization and cost containment.Assigns and assists determining priority of work assignments for BMET I's and BMET II's.Provides technical assistance and guidance to BMET I's and BMET II's.Effectively manages all service emergencies and escalates service emergencies to department leadership in a timely manner.Consults on individual performance evaluations of BMET I's and BMET II'sAssists with maintaining accurate data in department's electronic database management systemAssists in maintaining department's technical literature library.Assists in meeting departmental monthly work order completion goals.Provide On-Call coverage on a rotating basis, as required.Position requires some travel to support off campus facilities.Perform all other assigned job duties as required.What You Need to Be Successful:EDUCATION Must meet one of the following (Required):Associate's Degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology or related fieldCertificate in Biomedical Equipment Technology or related fieldMilitary Biomedical Technology Course or equivalent technical programCERTIFICATION/ LICENSURE/ REGISTRATIONBiomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) Certification is preferred.EXPERIENCE AND SKILLSMinimum 5 years of experience in servicing medical equipment, preferably in a hospital environment.Knowledge of the principles and practices of electronics and biomedical engineering technology as applied to the calibration and repair of biomedical equipment and instrumentation.Knowledge of electronic component characteristics in relation to configuration in AC/DC circuits.Demonstrated knowledge of color code conventions used in component and wiring marking.Demonstrated knowledge of digital electronics concepts.Knowledge and ability to effectively use electronic and pneumatic measuring devices.Demonstrated ability to properly operate various test measuring diagnostic equipment; such as a digital multi-meter, oscilloscope, DC power supply, electrical safety analyzer, and pressure/vacuum meter/gauge.Proficiency in the use of hand tools and soldering equipment.Familiarity with basic anatomy and physiology as applied to the use and operation of medical equipment.Highly effective written and verbal communication skills.Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.Ability to read and comprehend complex medical equipment operation and technical service manuals.Ability to read and interpret electrical/electronic circuit schematics properly.Ability to recognize electronic components and their symbols as used in schematic diagrams.Ability to a use computer to perform data entry of statistical information into the department's computerized database.Ability to make effective, timely decisions based on sound judgment, data and experience, considering implications and consequences.Ability to maintain and repair a wide variety of complex medical equipment and systems.We are an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
