Job Description

Developer - Full Stack

The Washington Post is hiring a Full Stack engineer for our site team ( In this role, you will work in tandem with editorial and business partners to build leading edge media products that have a material impact on The Washington Post and the industry.

Sample projects include:

  • Build and scale an alternative reading experience for subscribers

  • Transform onto a new generation ARC platform

  • Deliver real time election results as maps, tables, and graphics

  • Work with newsroom to develop new tools to work in an always changing digital landscape


  • Developing new, and contributing to existing, platforms that have a critical role in the digital landscape that supports

  • Exploring and bringing new technologies and architectures to our technology landscape.

  • Building and deploying to production, making the lives of our users better, helping further support the business objectives of the Post.

  • Building and scaling apps from scratch.


  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, equivalent field, or equivalent experience.

  • React.js experience desired.       

  • 2+  years of creating user facing experiences on production sites.

  • 2+  years of experience with client side languages (e.g.,JavaScript, HTML5, CSS).

  • Experience in server side technologies (Python, Java, Node. MongoDB.)

  • Experience with DevOps technologies like Docker, Jenkins and AWS Products.

  • Familiarity with Git.

  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and work in a highly agile environment.

  • Strong desire to learn new technologies and a willingness to tackle complex, technical problems.
