The **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW ., based in Washington, DC, is the independent non-profit affiliate of the National Press Club. The Institute provides innovative, practical training to journalists and communications professionals. It offers a broad range of professional development programs focusing on press freedom, ethical conduct and best practices in today's rapidly changing media environment. The **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW . is seeking an experienced leader to drive our mission of promoting and advancing a free press and training journalists to inform the public and inspire civic engagement. The position offers opportunities to further the profession of journalism, advocate for a free press, serve the Institute and what it stands for and grow professionally., The executive director is responsible for all operational aspects of directing the Institute, including human and financial resources, with guidance from the board of directors. Work with the board to set short- and long-term strategy for the Institute. Oversee Institute fundraising, including establishing and maintaining positive relationships with existing and potential donors. Ensure day-to-day operations of the Institute and its programming and events. Maintain official records and documents to ensure compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations. Work with the board and lead the staff to develop policies and programming and execute projects and programs to carry out the Institute's mission. Stay up to date with a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in journalism, including domestic and international press freedom issues. Manage Institute staff and work with volunteers on programming. Manage the work of the Institute's Press Freedom fellow. Be point of contact with National Press Club for coordination on programming. Work with the board and investment professionals to manage the financial portfolio. Serve as a liaison for the organization and promote the Institute with other journalistic professional organizations and the public. Successful candidates will have: An understanding of and appreciation for the news organization A vision for success of a journalism-based non-profit organizations Skills as a self-starter able to take initiative to lead an organization A track record of leadership and organizational growth mentality Experience in non-profit fundraising and donor management Diplomacy to work with people ranging from donors to volunteers Demonstrated ability to budget and manage a non-profit organization's finances Project management skills Experience creating, developing and implementing relevant programming Experience managing people and working across teams A willingness to jump in and do everyday tasks as well as performing strategic roles Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written and electronic communications skills. Responsive to stakeholder. Preferred Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree in related field 5 or more years of experience in non-profit, leadership, administration, finances, fundraising and, outreach.
