Network Administrator - Optical Technician
Job Summary The Operations Tech II - Federal ISP is a member of a highly-skilled technical team working on complex network system equipment, and installation and maintenance assignments. With little or no supervision configures, installs, tests, and maintains network fiber optic equipment (OC-3 to OC-192, 1Gig to 100GE and Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) components). Job Description * Use software and hardware tools to identify and diagnose network status and performance in the field * Tests DWDM and SONET circuits * Leads a team in turning up circuits across SONET and DWDM platforms * Document all efforts in a timely manner * Provide functional guidance * Under supervision, installs and troubleshoots of DC power systems * Directs the installation and troubleshooting of timing systems * Performs and document QCs on installations * Performs PMIs * Assists in the development of program deliverables * Carries a pager for after hour call-outs (as required) Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: * US Citizenship required * Must maintain eligibility requirements for access to classified information (applicants selected will be subject to a government security re-investigation * Associate degree in Engineering, Electronics, Software, or Networks; or a related technical or vocational education or equivalent experience * Experience with SONET equipment and networks required * Five or more years' applicable work experience * Understand network test procedures, use network test equipment, and interpret test results * Possesses knowledge of troubleshooting SONET and DWDM platforms * Possesses an understanding of network testing, uses network test equipment and documents efforts in a professional manner Preferred Qualifications: * Experience with Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing * Experience with Cisco MSTP, MSSP and MSPP equipment helpful * Experience with Cisco switches, routers, and fundamental knowledge of TCP/IP EEO EmployerApex is an Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
