Our client, a growing government contractor in the heart of downtown DC, is currently looking for an Accounting Manager to work directly with their Controller. The Accounting Manager will be a key member of the F&A team that is responsible for the full life-cycle of government contract accounting, from accounts payable, revenue recognition, journal entries, general ledger maintenance, to month-end close support. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple tasks, and make decisions quickly. Excellent opportunity to join a growing firm with a dynamic leadership team. Essential Duties and Responsibilities * Manage day-to-day accounting operations on our Costpoint 7.1 general ledger system * Act in leadership role as deputy to Controller * Expertise in full-cycle accounting including Month-End / Year-End Close * Manage two staff teammates * Monitor emerging technology to determine ways to automate the accounting process without sacrificing accuracy and accountability * Perform Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss statement reconciliations and ensure the integrity of financial records * Provide technical financial advice, guidance, and instruction to managers, staff and others on the full range of financial processes, workflows, and priorities. Identify and assist in the resolution of moderately complex to complex financial problems and issues. * Gather and analyze financial data to inform leadership decisions. * Reviews and actively participate in refinement of accounting and financial processes and procedures. Identify and implement changes to gain efficiencies. * Coordinate the implementation and maintenance of a system of checks and balances to ensure the integrity of financial records. * Confirms accuracy of operating and financial reports. * Advises Controller regarding matters, such as effective use of resources and methods. * Analyzes records of present and past operations, trends and costs, estimated and realized revenues, administrative commitments, and obligations incurred. * Maintains financial security by establishing internal controls. * Avoids legal challenges by understanding current and proposed legislation; enforcing accounting regulations; recommending new procedures. * Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential. Education and Experience * Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field * 6 plus years of experience for a government contractor * CPA preferred Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Working knowledge of GAAP, FAR and DCAA rules and regulations * Knowledge and experience working with different Contract types FFP, T&M, Cost Plus * Recent proficiency CostPoint 7.1 * Proficiency in MS Office, and MS Excel * Highly organized, strong attention to detail and analytical skill * Team player with excellent communication and relationship management skills * Strong budgeting, financial forecasting and financial analysis skills required * Ability to multitask and prioritize daily workload * Apply problem analysis, solving skills and critical thinking * Apply sound judgment and decision-making ability * Strong time management abilities to include the ability to work autonomously to carry out duties, resolve issues, and determine when questions or concerns should be escalated further * High level of proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of applications (eg, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) Key Competencies * The ability to balance multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of responsiveness * Complete professionalism, and discretion, with a commitment to protecting confidential or sensitive information when necessary * Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive and productive relationships, both with internal staff and external contacts
