Windows System Administrator
Job SummaryThe System Administrator will be responsible for strategic planning, design and implementation of core technologies associated with organization's Local Area Network (LAN) and virtualized (VMware) environment. They will provide integrated team oversight of hardware and software maintenance and will be responsible for the overall project management of software upgrades that run on both Windows and Linux virtual/physical servers. Responsibilities and TasksDesign, implement, and project manage system-wide technical solutions such as Server Virtualization (VMware), Active Directory services, Electronic Messaging, Remote Access (VPN), etc., to meet organizational goals.Responsible for server monitoring, patching and configuration to ensure file servers are maintained at optimum level for performanceIndependently develops new and refines existing troubleshooting methodologies for complex issues involving hardware, software and user training.Provides technical guidance to memebers of the Radiation Oncology Dept regarding the use of supported software products and loads server software in accordance with established UMMC standards.Oversees installation of, and/or independently installs or relocates computer equipment, such as PCs, modems, terminals, printers, servers and other associated hardware ensuring access to electricity, network and telephone equipment in accordance with established UMMS standards.Monitors IP addresses, PC configurations, or other required documentation for assigned LAN(s)In coordination with departmental management, ensures systems meet regulatory agency requirements.Reviews real-time trending information, and contacts Tiered support, when necessary.Studies vendor products to determine those which best meet organization needs; assists in presentation of information to management resulting in purchase, and installation of hardware, software, and telecommunications equipment.Performs LAN security procedures. Evaluates new products and technologies to determine impact on existing system configurations.Prepares proposals, cost/benefit analyses, and feasibility studies. Provides liaison support between the PC/LAN team, vendors and internal support group as needed.Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent related professional experience is required. Windows and Linux experience is highly preferred.5 years of experience designing, implementing and supporting LAN network operating systems, server virtualization products, electronic messaging products, multi-server, multi-domain AD (Active Directory) forest environments, in a multi-site environment with over 1000 users.** The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification.
