The firm is a college.The Director of Marketing leads marketing initiatives college-wide. Reporting to the Vice President of Institutional Advancement, the director is responsible for the direct supervision of three (3) marketing specialists, and the manager and staff of the Graphics Department. The position also advises, interfaces with and supports the efforts of the entire Institutional Advancement staff, including the Associate Vice President for Internal Communication and Web Services, and the directors of Media Relations and the Call Center. Additionally, working in partnership with Institutional Research, Enrollment Management, and all campus-based provosts and department chairs, the director holds primary responsibility for the creation and management of effective and accountable short- and long-term strategic marketing plans in support of NOVA's recruitment and retention efforts., Leads marketing activities based on research and collaboration with the marketing team and departments throughout NOVA's multi-campus structure. Counsels individual campuses and academic departments on their overall marketing strategy. Responsibilities include annual and ongoing marketing planning; institutional branding; advertising; web-based marketing; and the use of new media in support of the college's marketing. Ensures alignment of departmental and event-level marketing tactics and marketing communication strategies, and ensures that all marketing initiatives of the college incorporate appropriate branding elements and reflect appropriate messages for the target audience. Selects and negotiates vendor contracts for marketing services, and supervises and evaluates their performance. Serves as the final arbiter and point of sign-off for all key editorial and proofreading efforts (print and online) to ensure consistency of voice, style and intent; advises partners throughout the college on content and style-related matters. Assists in identifying untapped marketing opportunities in potential, new or underdeveloped areas of the college based on a knowledgeable understanding of the regional economy, the college's diverse student markets and its community partnerships. Advises college administration on the marketing potential and marketing needs of proposed academic programs. Works with NOVA's leaders to develop specific marketing initiatives for any new programs, including budget forecasts. Works in partnership with the Associate Vice President for Internal Communications and Web Services in the development, implementation and evaluation of online marketing initiatives including, but not limited to, search engine optimization, social media advertising, Google analytics, Internet, and online newspapers. Hires, trains, supervises, mentors and evaluates marketing team employees. Maintains an understanding of NOVA administrative procedures and policies, as well as human resources directives. Collaborates with employees to identify and support professional development. Coordinates and supervises external consultants, freelancers and vendors as needed. Performs other duties as assigned that pertain to the job description.,A Bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, communication, journalism or a related field from an accredited college or university or equivalent education and experience. Experience working in higher education. Experience in college recruitment process. Substantial years of experience in marketing, marketing communication, public relations or marketing in an educational setting. Experience in supervising personnel, managing an operating budget. Experience in developing and executing institutional communication programs. Several years of professional writing experience. Experience in institutional branding, marketing and market research., Master's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university; experience in a community college environment; strong personnel and project management skills. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Must be a strong communicator with excellent written, presentation and oral communication skills. Must possess excellent judgment; be able to think creatively and strategically; function as a consensus-builder; and serve as a institutional diplomat, fostering a spirit of teamwork among diverse offices throughout the college. Strong knowledge of college marketing and recruiting processes are essential. Ability to plan and set strategic direction for marketing and communication efforts and the ability to work and lead a variety of people and situations. Need to be able to articulate the mission of NOVA to many constituencies. Ability to prioritize and plan work activities and develop strategies to achieve organizational goals. Ability to identify and resolve problems, develop alternative approaches and meet challenges with resourcefulness. Ability to interact and articulate sensitively with students, faculty, staff, and administrators in a multicultural and diverse community. Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of faculty, staff and community college students.
